This question has popped up several times before and most people will tell you its hard to beat the 028 when it comes to reliability. Mar 13, 2023 · I have a Stihl 029 that’s not oiling when the bar is on. I’ve taken the bar off and it pumps oil fine. The pump it turned all the way open. The saw was rebuilt about 6 months ago. Also has new oil pump, work gear, oil line, oil filter, clutch, bearing, and clutch drum. I just bought a new Stihl bar and chain, but still the same issue.

Stihl 029 running poorly, no power - Arborist, Chainsaw
Aug 20, 2012 · The 039 and 029 carbs are NOT identical. The 029 has a port on it where a grommet attaches it to the air filter in addition to around the venturi in the choke area. So I don't know for sure that the 029 running on the 039 means the carb is faultless. Since the 039 engine is larger, it may be able to accommodate more fuel going into it.
